Congress president Sonia Gandhi appeared in the Enforcement Division office today for questioning in connection with the National Herald case. Congress has been alleging that the central BJP government has been using the Enforcement Directorate for revenge since the beginning. Ahead of Sonia’s appearance today, an emergency meeting of the Congress was held at the house of Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjuna Kharge. It was attended by prominent Congress leaders. In that meeting, it is said that it was decided to join the protest on behalf of the Congress party across the country against this action of the central government.
Following that, today all the organizations of the Congress such as volunteers and women’s team gathered at the Congress office in Delhi from early morning. They left there chanting slogans and went to the Enforcement Division office. Due to this, there was a tense situation on Akbar Road, where the office is located. The police set up barricades and engaged in security. Additional police were called in to prevent any untoward incident. Regarding the investigation of this case, the Congress Party posted on its Twitter page, “Can the Enforcement Directorate threaten Sonia Gandhi, whose family background has changed the history of the world?”
The BJP has subsequently criticized the Congress as a “duragra” (stubborn demand) struggle to protect the Gandhi family in response. In this regard, former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Congress’s plea to quash the FIR related to the National Herald case has been dismissed by all courts, including the Supreme Court. But Congressmen are fighting the investigation. This is not a ‘satyagraha’ struggle but a ‘duragra’ struggle against the Indian nation, its laws and its institutions. “Congress has now become a pocket organization of a family, now its assets are also being pocketed by that family,” he sarcastically criticized.
