Canton of Uri – Flüelen: Fire in an apartment building

Today, Saturday, March 16, 2024, shortly before 7 a.m., the Uri cantonal police operations center received a report of a fire in a residential building on Kirchstrasse in Flüelen. When the first emergency services arrived on site, the apartment building was already fully engulfed in flames. The eight residents of the fire were able to get to safety on their own. Two other people from an adjacent building were evacuated as a precaution. Thanks to the rapid extinguishing efforts of the Flüelen fire department, with the support of the Altdorf and Sisikon fire departments, the fire was quickly brought under control and finally completely extinguished. Because of suspected smoke poisoning, one person had to be looked after by the emergency services and then taken to the Uri Cantonal Hospital.

The cause of the fire and the exact amount of property damage are the subject of investigations by the Uri cantonal police.

The Axenstrasse in the village of Flüelen remains closed in the area of ​​the fire until further notice. A traffic diversion is signaled via the Flüelertunnel.

A total of 70 people from the Flüelen, Altdorf and Sisikon fire departments, the emergency services of the Uri, Nidwalden and Schwyz cantonal hospitals, Rega, the Uri Office for the Environment, Wastewater, the SBB, the Flüelen municipal management staff and the Uri cantonal police were on duty.
