Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, representative of the Holy See, said that the conflicts will distort the relations between peoples and between nations.

On Friday (25/11/22), he was addressing the 20th meeting of the nations that have signed the declaration on anti-personnel landmines in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

Archbishop Fortunatus said that it is the citizens who are suffering the impact of the conflicts and many of the victims of landmines are children, who are stark reminders of the brutality and tragedy of the conflicts.

Therefore, removing explosive mines, destroying their stockpiles and providing assistance to the victims of these mines is not only a legal duty, but also a moral call that must stand unwaveringly before the conscience of all of us.

He revealed that the Holy See, through Catholic Church institutions, is making global efforts to extend a helping hand to those who are in danger of exploding mines and expresses its gratitude to the countries and numerous non-governmental organizations working in this field.
