Regarding the transfer of traders from Caravan Bazar, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam said that after Eid, the extremely dangerous Arat building of Caravan Bazar will be demolished. Initially, 176 traders will be transferred from there to Gabtali raw market.

This was announced by Mayor Atiqul Islam in an exchange meeting organized with the leaders of business associations in Gabtali of the capital on Monday (March 18). Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was present as the chief guest in the meeting. The meeting was organized with the traders regarding the transfer from Karwan Bazar to Amin Bazar raw market in Gabtali area.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, we will not keep any dangerous building after Eid. The mayor said so. We will break them down step by step. I will request to take measures to stop business in these. We don’t want to see any more death marches.

Earlier, the Home Minister said to the businessmen, “You are occupying all the roads of Caravan Bazaar.” Caravan has occupied the park, field of the market and established the market. So everyone needs to take this option (transfer to Aminbazar). Karwan Bazar fish market, wholesale market will all move slowly. You have to leave the caravan market. It is the Prime Minister’s decision.

Earlier, Dhaka North City Mayor Atiqul Islam said in his speech that the office building (Arat Bhawan) of Dhaka North City Region-5 is very dangerous. It can collapse at any time. Many people’s lives have been threatened. The bottom of this building is made of bamboo and wood. I have ordered the demolition of this building after Eid (Eidul Fitr). There are 176 shops under this building. We will shift those shops here (Aminbazar raw market).

Mayor also said that Dhaka did not happen in one day, Mirpur, Uttara, Shantinagar all expanded gradually. Digital Bangladesh is becoming Smart Bangladesh. We want a smooth and functioning Dhaka. I want to change the caravan market in the center of Dhaka. There is no discipline. It is a fact that all traders will have to move from there gradually. No wholesale market can sit in the middle of a city.

Drawing the attention of the Home Minister, the mayor said to the businessmen that the businessmen will be able to do business from the day they come. Maybe the day you come, the business will not be full. However, since that building (Arat Bhaban) will be demolished, those 176 businessmen who are in that building are being allocated here.
