This marathon is a showcase of the dynamism of Casablanca and its commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle,” underlined Mohamed Jouahri, general director of Casablanca Events & Animation.
“Every year, thousands of participants and volunteers come together to make this event a success, thus strengthening the influence of Casablanca on the international scene,” he said during the press briefing.
“This year, the financial rewards have been doubled to attract the best runners, particularly international athletes. Our goal is to break new records,” he said. And added: “We also hope to surpass the 10,000 participant mark for this edition, making the Casablanca Marathon an unmissable event in the world marathon calendar.”
“The 15th edition of the Casablanca Marathon is distinguished by new, carefully studied routes. Thanks to the collaboration of all stakeholders involved in the organization, we have chosen optimal routes that reflect the beauty of the city’s main avenues,” said road racing expert Ahmed Tanani.
Note that the Marathon Village will be set up at Place Rachidi from October 18 to 26, welcoming participants who wish to register for one of the events scheduled for this 15th edition or collect their bibs. And for greater proximity, other registration points will be deployed, according to the organizers.
This village will also include an exhibition space reserved for partners, areas dedicated to well-being and catering, as well as events and parallel activities.
Time.news Interview with Dr. Khalid Benjelloun, Sports Event Expert:
Editor (Sarah El Amrani): Welcome to Time.news, Dr. Benjelloun! We’re excited to discuss the upcoming Casablanca International Marathon. Could you share your thoughts on the significance of this event for the local community and sport in Casablanca?
Dr. Khalid Benjelloun: Thank you, Sarah! The Casablanca International Marathon is not just a physical competition; it’s a celebration of community and unity. Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, it showcases our city’s passion for sports and its cultural values. Events like these foster a sense of belonging and encourage physical activity across all age groups.
Editor: Absolutely! I see the marathon features several categories, including a kids’ run. How important do you think it is to involve the younger generation in such events?
Dr. Benjelloun: Involving kids in sports is crucial for their health and development. The kids’ run at the marathon introduces them to the joy of running and physical activity early on. It creates lasting memories and encourages a lifestyle of fitness, which is essential in today’s world where sedentary habits are common. Plus, it cultivates a culture of sport within families as parents and children can participate together.
Editor: That’s a great point! Now, this year the organizers have doubled the arrival bonuses to encourage exceptional performances. How do financial incentives impact the level of competition in marathons?
Dr. Benjelloun: Financial incentives can significantly increase the level of competition. By raising the stakes to 120,000 dirhams and even more for outstanding performances, we attract elite runners who want to not only compete but also earn recognition and rewards for their hard work. This not only elevates the race’s profile but also improves overall performance and inspires local runners to push their limits.
Editor: Interesting perspective! The marathon is organized in partnership with several entities, including educational institutions. How crucial is this collaboration for the event’s success?
Dr. Benjelloun: Collaboration is key! By partnering with universities and local authorities, the marathon benefits from shared resources, expertise, and networks. Educational institutions can mobilize students and volunteers, fostering community engagement while providing invaluable learning experiences. Furthermore, involving the educational sector promotes health education and wellness among students.
Editor: Speaking of community, how does the marathon contribute to the economic landscape of Casablanca?
Dr. Benjelloun: The economic impact can be substantial! The marathon attracts local and international participants, which boosts tourism and local businesses—from hotels to restaurants and shops. Events like these create a vibrant atmosphere that highlights Casablanca as a sporting destination. Additionally, they encourage investment in infrastructure and services that can benefit the city long after the race is over.
Editor: It sounds like the Casablanca International Marathon is poised for great success! Before we wrap up, what message would you like to send to potential participants or spectators?
Dr. Benjelloun: I’d say, come join us in celebrating sport, health, and community spirit! Whether you’re running or cheering from the sidelines, your participation is vital. Together, we can make this marathon a memorable event that showcases the best of Casablanca. Let’s embrace the passion of running and inspire each other!
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Benjelloun! We can’t wait for the marathon and all the excitement it will bring to the city!
Dr. Benjelloun: Thank you, Sarah! It’s been a pleasure discussing this fantastic event with you. See you at the marathon!
