Second match against Spain on the 20th
The Korean women’s U17 national team drew with Colombia in the first round of the U17 Women’s World Cup thanks to Casey’s equalizer.
Korea, led by coach Kim Eun-jung, drew 1-1 in the first leg of Group B of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup against Colombia held at the Felix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in the Dominican Republic on the 17th (Korean time).
Korea gave up the first goal to Elia Martinez in the 27th minute of the first half, but Casey followed up with a penalty kick taken by Hankook-hee in the 36th minute of the first half.
Korea led the game against Colombia and played a dominant game. However, Shin Da-in’s free kick hit the crossbar and a critical mistake by the opposing defender at the end of the second half did not result in an own goal, so they failed to secure a victory due to lack of goal luck.
In the Women’s U17 World Cup, 16 teams will participate in the group stage, divided into 4 groups of 4 teams, and then the 1st and 2nd place winners from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
Korea, with 1 draw (1 point), continues the second and third group stage games against Spain on the 20th and the United States on the 23rd.
Korea has advanced to the finals of the Women’s U17 World Cup, now in its 8th year, three times. They reached the quarterfinals in the first tournament held in New Zealand in 2008, and won the first FIFA tournament in Korean soccer history in the 2010 tournament held in Trinidad and Tobago.
