A real rarity was presented in the special edition of the ZDF show. This not only caused an emotional outburst for moderator Horst Lichter.

On Wednesday evening, Horst Lichter welcomed ZDF viewers to an XXL edition of “Bares für Rares” from the Eberbach Monastery in Hesse, where, among other things, the classic film “The Name of the Rose” was filmed. As expected, there were some particularly interesting pieces to examine in the historical setting of the former Cistercian abbey in the Rheingau.

Including an extraordinary necklace that Monika Eichleiter was once given as a gift from her mother-in-law. Expert Heide Rezepa-Zabel was immediately impressed by the piece of jewelry. “Really fabulous,” she enthused, explaining that it was a 18k gold necklace with a sapphire and a diamond.

The highlight, however: the framed, green-blue and extremely rare Paraiba tourmaline. “Here we have an 11.2 carat, that’s sensational. And this color is extraordinary – you can’t believe it in this size! That’s something very special,” said the expert.

Monika Eichleiter wanted 10,000 euros for the piece of jewelry. That didn’t sound strange at first, because “the price of gold is around 2,000 euros,” said the expert. An additional 1,000 euros would be added for the sapphire and the diamond. But then the surprise: the tourmaline alone is worth 3,300 to 3,700 euros – per carat! “Here we are at 40,000 euros to 42,000 euros,” estimated Heide Rezepa-Zabel.

The owner could hardly believe her luck and put her hand over her mouth. “It’s crazy. I didn’t know it was such a valuable piece,” said Monika Eichleiter, completely overwhelmed, which also caused Horst Lichter to have an emotional outburst. “Now I have tears in my eyes,” admitted the moderator and warmly hugged the participant.

The find also sparked euphoria among the dealers at the show, who were overwhelmed with offers. In the end, Monika Eichleiter was able to sell the necklace to jeweler Susanne Steiger for 30,000 euros.
