An art teacher in China was fired by her institution last year. For no other reason than their pet cat kept jumping across their online class. But now the verdict has come in favor of this teacher. The verdict ordered that the company should pay Rs 4.7 lakh as compensation to them.

The teacher’s name is Luo. In June last year, Luo was taking an online class when the cat jumped five times. Luo works for an education tech company. With this, Luo was dismissed from the company saying that the cat jumped across the camera. The company alleged that it had damaged the teacher’s image.

Additionally, the company alleged that there was an earlier incident where she was 10 minutes late for class, and that Luo did things other than teaching during her classes. However, challenging all this, Luo went ahead with the complaint. But the company was neither willing to listen to them nor willing to compensate them. Instead he went ahead with the decision to fire them.

The company’s argument was that the cat jumped across a rule in a rulebook prepared by the company for teachers. However, the teacher insisted that her cat Cameo did not invade the class. Judge Liao Yajing of the Guangzhou Tianhe People’s Court, which heard the case, said employers should not ask for anything too strict if their employees want to work from home during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thus, the court ordered the teacher to pay Rs 4.7 lakh as compensation.
