At Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, 37 poor and destitute patients underwent free cataract surgery.

Day-long free cataract surgery was conducted at Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute on Sabrina Sobhan Road, Bashundhara residential area on Thursday (October 10). Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, Vision Care Foundation and Medical Support Center, Chapainawabganj jointly organized this operation.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute’s unpaid director and vision care foundation president Dr. Md. Saleh Ahmed participated in the operation under the supervision of Dr. Anthony Albert, Dr. Tasruba Shahnaz, Dr. Jerin Parveen and Dr. Nusrat Lubna Islam.

According to the hospital authorities, on February 16, an I camp was held at Krishnagobindpur Degree College in Chapainawabganj. There, 1,200 patients were examined and 420 were selected for surgery. On Thursday, 37 eyes of the fifth batch of those patients were operated. Among them 15 are male and 22 are female.

Dr. in this regard. Md. Saleh Ahmad said, in 2014, we started this program of free eye surgery for patients. We conduct free eye camps in different parts of the country. There, patients are selected for operation and brought to our hospital. After the operation, we bring them back to their home. We do all these activities at our own expense. I think our success in this program is 100%.

He said, people of our country neglect their eyes. Children have some congenital eye diseases, which parents may not understand. Later when the child goes to school, those problems are detected. Therefore, children need to be screened before the age of five. Apart from this, after 40 years several problems occur including cataracts. They also need regular eye exams to keep their eyes healthy and see well.

He came to Bashundhara Eye Hospital from Chapainawabganj for cataract surgery. Ikramul Haque said, this is undoubtedly a great activity. Service to humanity is the greatest religion. Not everyone can follow this religion. Bashundhara Eye Hospital can do that. The treatment of others including the doctor here is excellent. They take care of the patients like parents, uncles and brothers. Their use is incomparable, as if everyone is their own.

Momena Begum, who came from the same area for cataract surgery, said, I used to see blur in my eyes. I could not get treatment for money. I went to eye camp for free eye test after hearing from someone in our area. Later they examined the eye and brought it for operation. It didn’t cost me anything. Now I can see properly again. May Allah bless them.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute Manager (HR and Administration) Mohammad Ahsan Habib said, this initiative has been taken to help poor and sick patients with eye treatment. Such activities are already underway to serve the poor. This camp is free all over the country. So far, more than 3 thousand 145 patients have undergone free eye surgery through this camp.
