Catholic Easter: Special bank holiday – What will happen to any transactions made after 5pm on Thursday

A special bank holiday due to Easter will be next with banking affected.

Changes to banking transactions will be effective from Friday March 29th, Catholic Good Friday until Monday April 1st which is Catholic Easter Monday.

This means that the interbank transactions that will take place from tomorrow Thursday after 17:00 pm will not be seen until six days later, i.e. on April 3. All transactions that will be made within these days will be registered in the bank with the date of April 2, i.e. the next business day.

From the special bank holiday due to Catholic Easter will be affected according to a press release of e-EFKA, and the deadline for paying insurance contributions and installments. New payment date is Tuesday, April 2.

In particular, it extends the payment of the following:

  • of the current insurance contributions of the Public Sector for the salary period of January 2024,
  • of current insurance contributions of employers of joint enterprises (private sector) and construction projects for the salary period of February 2024,
  • of current insurance contributions for February 2024 and corresponding settlement installments of self-employed, self-employed and farmers’ contributions, as well as settlement installments of land workers who are paid by ergomark p.O.G.A.,
  • insurance contributions for optional continuation of insurance, recognition of insurance time, etc. with a final payment date of March 29, 2024 and
  • installments of partial repayment of debts and arrangements of March 2024.

It is noted that bank branches in Greece will remain open.
