CBS Bets on Period Comedy “Regency” and a Slate of New Pilots for 2026-2027 Season

CBS is bolstering its comedy lineup with a diverse range of pilot projects, including a period piece titled “Regency” and several high-concept sitcoms, signaling a continued commitment to the genre. “Regency” Offers a “Historical Spin” on Family Comedy
The network has ordered a pilot for “Regency,” a multi-camera sitcom from Tara Hernandez, known for her work on “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon.” Described as a “historical spin” on the classic family comedy, the show is set in 19th Century England and centers on the upper-middle class Tillbrook family as they navigate “life, love, and scandal.” According to a network release,the logline for “Regency” promises a fresh take on familiar tropes.
Expanding the Comedy Roster
“Regency” is just one piece of CBS’s ambitious progress slate. The network is also exploring workplace comedy with “Checkpoint,” a series set within the TSA and starring comedian X Mayo, who co-created the project with Mike Sikowitz. Another project in development, “Auntie Supreme,” from CBS Studios and Cedric the Entertainer’s Bird & The Bear Entertainment, focuses on a life coach who unexpectedly becomes a co-parent to her nieces. gloria bigelow and Christy Stratton are the writers behind this new offering.
Vampires and Established Hits Round Out the Lineup
Further diversifying its comedy portfolio, CBS is also developing “Eternally Yours,” from the executive producers of “Ghosts,” Joe port and Joe Wiseman. This pilot centers on a family dynamic complicated by the supernatural, featuring vampires grappling with their daughter’s relationship with a human. The network hopes these new contenders will join the ranks of current hits like “Ghosts,” “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” and the recently launched “DMV.” Though, one established comedy, “the Neighborhood,” will conclude its eight-season run this spring.
