In 180 days the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place and there are still some question marks floating in the air. Both are related to what will happen in the polluted Seine River, which crosses the French capital city and is supposed to be an integral part of the biggest sporting event in the world.
Besides the opening ceremony which is supposed to take place in the Seine River, which poses many challenges in terms of security – the open water swimming event is also supposed to take place in the river but the pollution levels are high so the competition may move to another site. The previous summer’s open water test event with Roditi was canceled because the level of pollution was high in the water, yet the organizers promise that it will happen.
Following this, the French president Emmanuel Macron He referred to the state of the water in the river and promised: “I intend to swim in the river, and how. I won’t say when it will happen exactly, but I will do it. There has been an extraordinary investment in the treatment of the river, by the municipality and by the state, because we want the river to change its face.” .
