The decision came less than three hours before the match kicked off. The Council of State canceled the decrees taken by the Ministry of the Interior and the Pas-de-Calais prefecture prohibiting the travel and presence of Sevilla FC supporters on Tuesday in Lens on the occasion of the League of Nations match. champions between the two clubs at 6:45 p.m. And agrees with the Spanish club and the national association of supporters (ANS) who challenged in court this decision announced by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin on Sunday.

The Council of State denounces in its decision “the lack of justification for these measures” and brushes aside the arguments put forward by the State and the prefecture to prohibit the presence of supporters of the Spanish club. The meeting, classified 2/5 on the risk scale of the national division for the fight against hooliganism (DNLH), must attract 360 supporters of the Andalusian club, “a reduced number” which does not require this type of measures so “that ‘no rivalry exists between the two clubs and their supporters’.

“The applicant associations are justified in maintaining that the measures prohibiting […] are disproportionate and therefore pose a serious and manifestly disproportionate attack on the fundamental freedoms of these people,” supports the Council of State. The latter also condemns the State to pay 3,000 euros to Sevilla FC and the other associations which attacked the decree.

Spanish supporters, some of whom were already in Lens, will therefore be able to move freely through the streets of Lens before going to the Bollaert-Delelis stadium. To follow the meeting between Sergio Ramos and his partners against Franck Haise’s men with a place in the Europa League at stake for the Sang et Or in the event of a draw or victory.

This is the second time in less than a week that the Council of State has overturned orders from the Ministry of the Interior. The latter decided, after the death of a Nantes supporter on the sidelines of the Nice reception ten days ago, to prohibit the travel of supporters for matches classified as risky by the DNLH. But on Friday, this court had canceled four of these orders, one of which already concerned RC Lens for a trip to Montpellier.
