Champions League: why see OM and PSG on TV, it’s complicated and not cheap

by time news

By simply turning on Canal + on Tuesday evening, many subscribers broke their teeth hoping to follow the Champions League match OM – Eintracht Frankfurt (0-1) at the Vélodrome. And for good reason, OM’s second European match was not broadcast on Canal +, the group’s premium channel, at 20.99 euros per month, but on Canal + Foot, one of its new channels, launched beginning of September, as well as on RMC Sport 1, moreover.

As its name suggests, Canal + Foot is entirely devoted to football: the Premier League, two L1 matches per day, the women’s D1, the Europa League, etc. On Canal + Foot, 1,030,000 viewers followed OM – Frankfurt, with a peak audience of 1.23 million at 9:43 p.m., when Frankfurt scored.

The problem is that to benefit from Canal + Foot, you have to subscribe to the Canal + Sport offer at 35.99 euros, (which goes to 40.99 euros after one year). Or, more advantageous, opt for the “100% UEFA Champions League” offer from Canal + at 25.99 euros the first year (then 35.99 euros).

Last week, for the debut of the Champions League, both PSG and OM saw their first match broadcast on Canal +, but only exceptionally. It’s likely that many subscribers took this for granted and were misled on Tuesday night. During the first day of the Champions League last week, PSG – Juventus (2-1) had gathered just over 2 million viewers on Tuesday and Tottenham – OM (2-0), 1.45 million on Wednesday.

A balance between viewers for the following evenings

This Wednesday, September 14, for subscribers interested in the Maccabi Haifa – PSG match, life was simpler, since the meeting was held on Canal +. As for the following evenings of the group stage, the Tuesday match will be on Canal + Sport and the Wednesday match on Canal +. PSG and OM alternate from one week to the next, a balance will therefore be established between the two French representatives in the competition. And especially between viewers.

Canal +, which we contacted, points out that already last season, one match was broadcast on the Canal + channel and the other on Canal + Sport.

To follow OM on Tuesday, another possibility was to subscribe to RMC Sport (19 euros/month), knowing that RMC only has the exclusivity of one poster per Champions League evening, one, the Tuesday, and the other on Wednesday.

The most accessible Champions League offer remains that of beIN Sports at 15 euros per month, but although very complete, it does not include PSG and OM matches. And, useful detail, the beIN channels are accessible via the “100% UEFA Champions League” offer offered by Canal +.

It’s up to everyone to identify their desires as accurately as possible, to consider their budget, to cross-reference said data and to take advantage of the international break to choose the most judicious offer in anticipation of OM – Sporting on Tuesday October 4 and Benfica – PSG on Wednesday 5.
