The ChatGPT developers have now made their program accessible to WhatsApp users. But conversations with the AI are not only possible via chat.

ChatGPT is now also accessible via WhatsApp. The developers of the popular AI bot, OpenAI, announced this on their website. WhatsApp users can now write to the AI or even make phone calls with it without the need for a ChatGPT account.

Users simply need to add the relevant phone number to their contacts. Afterwards you can open a chat and talk to ChatGPT there. Calls are also possible – with one restriction: the free call time is limited to 15 minutes per month. And: So far, direct calls are only possible from the USA.

OpenAI employees demonstrated in a video stream that calls to ChatGPT also work with an old flip cell phone and a rotary phone.

There are other limitations, as the ChatGPT developers say: features that require logging into a ChatGPT account are currently not available. This includes chatting with images and personalization functions, in which the program, among other things, remembers the user’s preferences for later conversations.

The recently introduced web search is also not supported. The function makes it possible to receive quick answers with links to relevant sources on the Internet. In addition, according to the ChatGPT developers, the knowledge database will end in October 2023. The AI cannot answer questions, for example about global political developments after this point in time.
