New Delhi: Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that Visakhapatnam will be made the third capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister’s announcement was made at the International Diplomatic Alliance meet held in Delhi. Currently, Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool are the three capitals envisaged for Andhra Pradesh.

Despite the High Court saying that the three places cannot be declared as the capitals of Andhra Pradesh, the state government is not backing down from the plan. The case related to this is under consideration in the Supreme Court.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said at the International Diplomatic Alliance meeting that Visakhapatnam will become the capital of Andhra Pradesh in the coming days and the function of the Chief Minister will be shifted to Visakhapatnam.

Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had declared Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in 2015. But Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to declare the cities of Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool as the capital in 2020. Governor’s headquarters will also be shifted to Visakhapatnam. But all the functions of the Assembly will be held in the current capital city of Amaravati. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy also said that the High Court will be shifted to Kurnool.
