Chief Minister M.K.Stalin Delivers Keynote Address at All India Social Justice Federation Conference

CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu – In a groundbreaking move, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin addressed the second national conference of the All India Social Justice Federation via video. The conference, held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, aims to promote social justice and equality across the country.

During his keynote address, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin emphasized the importance of social justice, secular politics, socialism, equality, state autonomy, and federalism for the survival and progress of India. He highlighted the need for confederations at the all-India level to promote these ideologies, with the Social Justice Federation being an essential component.

The Chief Minister acknowledged Wilson, a member of the Rajya Sabha and a senior lawyer, for his commitment to coordinating the Social Justice Federation on behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He emphasized that social justice is the core philosophy of the DMK and the Dravidian movement, which was founded in 1916 to create a society based on egalitarian principles.

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin reflected on the historical significance of the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu, stating that it not only provided social justice to the people of the state but also inspired oppressed communities across India to fight for their rights. He highlighted the role of the Dravidian movement in amending the Indian Constitution for the first time, citing the inclusion of Article 15(4) in the First Amendment, which guarantees privileges for socially and educationally backward communities.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the efforts of former Chief Minister Kalainar in advocating for social justice at the national level. He recounted Kalainar’s address at the Uttar Pradesh State Scheduled-Backward Conference in 1973, where he called for reservation for backward communities in Union government jobs.

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin praised the Mandal Commission, established in 1978 to investigate the status of backward communities, and pushed for its recommendations to be implemented. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not fully providing the 27 percent quota for backward classes in Union government departments during their nine-year rule.

Furthermore, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin expressed concerns over the BJP’s stance on social justice. He questioned their motives, considering their history of overthrowing Prime Minister VP Singh’s government, which had introduced social justice measures. He emphasized the need for proper implementation of reservations in education, employment, and promotions for backward classes and scheduled tribes.

The Chief Minister called for the removal of the 50 percent reservation ceiling, proportional representation for SC/ST/OBCs, reservations in private employment, and the appointment of professors and students from marginalized communities in premier institutes like IITs and IIMs. He also emphasized the importance of a Social Justice Committee to address grievances of SC/ST/OBC employees and workers.

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin concluded his address by urging the union government to introduce necessary constitutional amendments to make reservations mandatory for appointments to the posts of Supreme Court and High Court judges. He also stressed the need for an All India Social Justice Monitoring Committee to ensure the full implementation of reservation policies by the Union Government.

The resolutions passed at the conference aim to promote social justice and equality in education, employment, and various other sectors across the country. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin called on all individuals to strive for a prosperous life with social justice.
