A three-year-old boy in Britain has died of severe malnutrition. A court decided that her parents were to blame and sent the couple to prison for a long time. The father was sentenced to 24.5 years and the mother to 19.5 years in prison.
Britain’s PA news agency quoted the Coventry city judge as saying the parents had put the child on an “extreme vegan diet” and contributed to his starvation. Severe malnutrition caused rickets, anemia and slowed growth.
“It is indeed challenging to imagine a worse abandonment case than the one that has come before this court,” the judge said. The child’s growth was severely stunted: when he died at the age of just under four, he was buried among the clothes of an 18-month-old.
