Child dies after falling into sand pit in Teesta

A four-year-old boy, Fahim, died after falling into a deep sand mining hole in the Teesta River at Aditmari in Lalmonirhat.

On Friday (March 3) afternoon, the diving team of the fire service recovered the body from the Teesta river in Chauraha area of ​​Mahishkhocha union of the upazila. Earlier, the child went missing around 12 noon. The deceased Fahim is the son of Manju Mia of Mahishkhocha area.

According to local residents, illegal machines are used to extract sand from Teesta river at night. As a result, there is a deep hole. A few children, including Fahim, fell into the pit while playing at that place before Namaz on Friday afternoon. Local residents informed the fire service without finding it. A team of Aditmari Fire Service went and searched and called a diving team from Rangpur. Later at 5 pm the diving team came and recovered the body of the child.

Emdadul Haque, a resident of the area, said that a deep hole has been formed here due to long sand extraction with the help of the contractor’s men. The child died there today. Action should be taken against sand traders.

In this regard, Mizan Hossain, team leader of the diving team of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said, “We came here and searched the river after receiving the news of the missing person.
