Children in Need 2025 Raises Over £45 Million for UK Youth

The annual BBC Children in Need appeal has surpassed expectations, raising a remarkable £45,507,536 to support children and young people across the United Kingdom – and the total is still climbing. The fundraising total was announced Friday night during a star-studded broadcast,hosted by a dynamic team including Paddy McGuinness,Mel Giedroyc,lenny Rush,Rochelle Humes,Vernon Kay,and Big Zuu,live from Salford.

A Night of Sketches, Performances, and Generosity

The three-hour show featured a diverse range of entertainment, including comedic sketches involving the casts of Gladiators and The Apprentice, alongside performances from established artists and rising stars. Viewers were treated to appearances by Lewis Capaldi, McFly’s Tom Fletcher and his son Buzz, and the Eurovision contestants Remember Monday.

However, the evening was truly defined by acts of incredible dedication and generosity. Radio 2 DJ Zoe Ball completed a 24-hour dance marathon, while a group of dedicated volunteers took on various challenges to contribute to the cause.

Children Take the Reins at the BBC

The event underscored its commitment to centering children’s voices, with a particularly memorable segment featuring Lord Sugar on the receiving end of a rigorous boardroom grilling, posed by a panel of eight inquisitive children. When asked why he was often perceived as “salty,” Sugar retorted, “Well Sugar is my name and that’s it, what can I say?”

Another sketch showcased Pudsey Bear, the iconic mascot, and actor Lenny Rush, 16, taking on roles as “TV big cheeses” in a children’s takeover of the BBC. rush, sporting a BBC lanyard and suit, declared, “You’re always going to face resistance.But remember, who runs the world? I do. Well, kids do.” A humorous clip also featured Richard Madeley threatening to fire Rush, stating, “We both know what’s going to happen if things don’t improve, don’t we? Lenny is going to be fired.”

gladiators Reimagined and Fitness Fun

The spirit of competition was also alive in a reimagined Gladiators segment,featuring a team of “mini Gladiators” attempting to tackle the challenges. While the diminutive athletes faced some logistical hurdles, the segment provided lighthearted entertainment. Mel Giedroyc and Big Zuu also led a live workout session with fitness expert Joe Wicks, incorporating some of the professional dancers from Strictly Come Dancing.

Earlier in the week,big Zuu extended his involvement by collaborating with Pudsey Bear and children from a Children in Need-funded theater project to present his first CBeebies Bedtime Story,reading Basil Dreams Big by Lu Fraser and Sarah Warburton. The story, focusing on resilience and self-belief, is currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.Pudsey Bear also made a special appearance on Bargain Hunt.

The rapper and chef emphasized the importance of supporting charities that “take care of carers, and also take care of parents,” adding, “I know how crucial it is for young people to have a trusted adult that they can talk to who believes in them and the power this can have in helping unlock their potential.” Lenny Rush, hosting for his third consecutive year, shared that his favorite aspect of the event was “having the opportunity to hear their stories” alongside meeting “so many amazing, inspiring people.”

The BBC’s daily news podcast, Newscast, also participated, with presenter Adam Fleming undertaking a 25-hour podcasting marathon featuring a diverse lineup of BBC radio presenters and podcasters.

With over £1 billion raised since its inception in 1980, Children in Need remains a vital force in supporting disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, and the 2025 appeal continues to demonstrate the power of collective generosity.
