RFI interviewed climatologist Raúl Cordero about the heat records being experienced during the southern winter in Chile, due to a combination of the El Niño phenomenon and climate change. In the town of Vicuña, located in the mountain range of the Coquimbo region, about 450 km north of Santiago, 37ºC was recorded on Tuesday, the highest temperature since 1951.
