New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has arrived in New Delhi. Wang Yi is the first senior Chinese leader to visit the country since the outbreak of conflict on the Indo-China border in eastern Ladakh. No Chinese leader has visited India in the last two years.

Wang Yi is scheduled to hold talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S Jayashankar on Friday. The news agency PTI reported that Yi arrived to restore relations between India and China and to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the BRICS summit in Beijing later this year.

Relations between the two countries have soured following clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. In June 2020, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the conflict. Some Chinese soldiers were also killed.

Following discussions at the military level, it was decided to withdraw troops from Pangong Lake and the Gorga area. However, things have not yet reached the pre-2020 level.
