The Department of Environment has formed a committee to assess the damage to the environment due to the terrible fire of privately owned S Alam Refined Sugar Industries Ltd. located in Ichanagar Union of Karnaphuli Upazila of Chittagong District.

Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. The convener of the committee formed under the signature of Abdul Hamid is Department of Environment, Chittagong Region Director (Additional Duty) Hillol Biswas.

Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain (PhD), professor, Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Chittagong University and Dr. as expert members in the committee. Asiful Haque, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering and Director, Institute of River, Harbor and Environmental Sciences, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology.

Md. as a member. Kamrul Hasan, Deputy Director, Directorate of Environment, Chittagong Laboratory. Ferdous Anwar, Deputy Director, Directorate of Environment, Chittagong District Office, will perform the duties of member secretary of the committee.

The committee may co-opt any other member if necessary. The committee has been asked to send the investigation report with clear opinion to the Director General, Directorate of Environment within the next 07 working days.

The committee was formed by the Department of Environment on Thursday. The committee will conduct a site visit to the fire-related area to assess the harmful effects on the environment, environment and biodiversity, determine the amount of compensation and make recommendations/recommendations on mitigation and prevention of the damage described in the incident.

It is to be noted that the District Commissioner of Chittagong and the officials of the Department of Environment visited the incident site today.
