Russia can maintain its status as a great energy power thanks to the export of hydrogen, said Anatoly Chubais, Special Representative of the Russian President for Relations with International Organizations, at SPIEF-2021.
“What can be done in Russia in terms of hydrogen is geopolitically comparable to what Russia is doing now in terms of hydrocarbons. Russia is capable of setting the task of preserving the status of a great energy power with the replacement of hydrocarbon exports with hydrogen exports, ”he said (quoted by TASS).
According to Chubais, Russia has a “fantastic advantage” in this area, unattainable for other countries, so it is necessary to “grip it with our teeth.” The special representative of the President of Russia also drew attention to the fact that the domestic GTS without deep modernization is capable of using at least 10% of the throughput capacity for hydrogen transport.
Earlier in May, Chubais compared the development of hydrogen energy in Russia with the country’s past industrialization.
