The price of certain tobacco products will increase next year. The Federal Council decided on Wednesday a ‘moderate’ increase in tobacco tax, which should bring in 45 million francs. This measure does not affect the price of traditional cigarettes.
This decision applies to cigars and cigars, fine-cut tobacco and water pipe tobacco, other tobacco tobacco (pipe tobacco and tobacco products intended to be heated), as well as other manufactured tobacco (snus, chewing tobacco and snuff), which the government indicates in a. press release. It will come into force on 1 January 2025.

For traditional cigarettes, the tax scale cannot be increased any further. The Federal Council exhausted its powers in this matter in April 2013. Subsequently, Parliament refused to give it the opportunity to revise the tax upwards.
