/ The Salah al-Din Agriculture Directorate confirmed on Wednesday that citrus production has flourished at remarkable rates during the current season through “technical” plans and intensive awareness.
The director of the department, Abbas Taha Al-Samarrai, told Agency that citrus production for the current season exceeded 150,000 tons, with significant rates of increase over previous seasons due to promising and intensive technical and awareness plans that contributed to increasing production and high quality throughout the governorate.
He stated that his department dispatched specialized technical prevention teams to detect and treat problems in citrus orchards, in addition to continuous support with agricultural supplies, pesticides, and the necessary preventive materials.
Al-Samarrai explained that the technical plans included a work plan for orchard owners regarding the appropriate irrigation time during the emergence of the first citrus seed and irrigation dates that contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the productive citrus trees, in addition to the continuous supervision of the plantation protection teams on all citrus orchards in coordination and communication with the farmers.
He also pointed out the launch of plans to revive and develop citrus orchards to increase the product and achieve economic and livelihood revenues for farmers.
He confirmed that the number of citrus trees in Salah al-Din exceeds two million trees, distributed throughout all administrative units and receiving exceptional support and attention.
