Within the framework of the approaches for a bilateral ceasefire, the lawyer Ricardo Giraldo, who represents the interests of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (Agc), also known as ‘gulf clan’made a message in which he questions the president Gustavo Petro.

According to statements delivered by the lawyer, he hopes that the ultimatum that the president gave to this illegal armed group to let him know if he is serious about his idea of reaching peace, or else not waste time, “Don’t be a tantrum from Petro”.

“I hope that this is a new tantrum from the president or a distraction from his bad meeting with the attorney general (Francisco Barbosa). Petro’s message asking about the intentions of the Agc was given over the weekend, when it was learned that the judges Alejandro Ramelli and Hugo Escobarfrom the Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) denounced that they received a death threat attributed to the ‘gulf clan’a situation that was not only taken by the Prosecutor’s Office for the respective investigation, but was also rejected by local and international authorities.
“I forcefully reject the threats from the ‘Gulf clan’ to JEP magistrates who are investigating false positives. The search for the truth will always be the fundamental principle of any peace process […] If the ‘Gulf clan’ does not understand that Peace implies the truth, It is better that I say it and let’s not waste time“, was the trill published by the head of state.

Faced with this accusation, the illegal organization commanded by Jobanis de Jesús Ávila, aka Javier or Chiquito Maloissued a statement denying that it was behind the threats to the JEP magistrates, refusing to be pointed out of events like this, and reiterating that their spirit is to reach peace.
While the impasse alerted by the lawyer Giraldo is resolved, the question is whether the ‘Gulf clan’ will have the path of peace negotiations, or that of the submission to justicea position that the government of President Gustavo Petro must define.
