Clara Brugada invites you to celebrate the Day of the Dead in CDMX; foresees economic benefit of 2 billion pesos

He Day of the Dead in Mexico City promises to be a unique experience, combining tradition, culture and a significant economic benefit for the country’s capital.

Within the framework of the celebration of Day of the Dead 2024the head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, extended an invitation to the residents of the capital, as well as national and international visitors, to enjoy the events that will take place in various parts of the city of Mexico. October 26 to November 2.

The participation of more than 7 million people and an economic benefit of more than 2 billion pesos is expected.

In a press conference from the Museum of Mexico City, Brugada highlighted that this festival, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a fundamental expression of Mexican culture.

“These festivities are a gift that our people give to the world and come from the depths of our culture. We want this city to live the Day of the Dead with all the tradition and joy,” he expressed.

Featured activities of the Day of the Dead 2024

Saturday October 26: Night Walk “Get around by bike” The first event on the cultural billboard will be the “Muévete en Bici” Night Ride, organized by the Mobility Secretariat (SEMOVI).

From 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., cyclists and pedestrians will be able to participate in costumes on a 20-kilometer route from the Petroleum Fountain to Izazaga Street, in the Historic Center.

Sunday October 27: Mega Procession of the Catrinas The eleventh edition of the Mega Procession of the Catrinas It will be carried out with the participation of more than 13 thousand people. The procession will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Angel of Independence and will culminate in the capital’s Zócalo.

Wednesday, October 30: Lighting and Monumental Offering in the Zócalo The Zócalo will be filled with light with the traditional lighting of the decorative lighting on the facades of the Government and Mercaderes buildings.

The Monumental Offering will also be inaugurated, designed by the Xibalbá Art Workshop, which will have 21 pieces of monumental cardboard, trajineras, a chinampa and a marigold garden with 10 thousand plants.

Friday, November 2: Grand Day of the Dead Parade The culminating event will be the Great Day of the Dead Parade, with more than 5,800 participants, which will travel eight kilometers from Chapultepec to the Zócalo.

The parade will include 37 contingents, seven floats and three tributes to Mexican figures such as Rosario Castellanos, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Lucha Reyes.

The festival will also be experienced in other municipalities, with activities such as the Pueblos con Memoria Festival in Milpa Alta, the Tlalmanalli Azcatl Festival in Azcapotzalco and the International Day of the Dead Festival in Mixquic, Tláhuac.

The Secretary of Tourism, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, highlighted that hotel occupancy already reaches 80 percent in the city, 10 percent more than the previous year.

“These dates not only celebrate our traditions, but also boost the local economy, so we invite everyone to enjoy Mexico City and its cultural diversity,” he added.
