This Saturday, October 5, 2024, Clara Brugada Molina protested as Head of Government of Mexico City and has taken office as head of the capital’s Executive power, thus becoming the second woman to hold the position by popular election, after the mandate of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, current President of Mexico.
In a ceremony before the Mexico City CongressBrugada promised to govern based on the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and that of Mexico City, committing to defend the rights and freedoms achieved by citizens. “If I don’t do it this way, let the people demand it from me”he declared during his protest.
Brugada, who will govern from 2024 to 2030thanked his predecessor Martí Batres for the work, highlighting his ability to maintain the direction of the transformations in the city. He stressed that now it is time to build “the second floor of the fourth transformation”a political project initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whose epicenter, he noted, is Mexico City, and will now continue under the command of President Sheinbaum Pardo.
In his speech, he recalled the words of López Obrador when he assumed the position of head of Government in 2000, highlighting his call to “light the flame of hope” in a city that should be a beacon of dignity and well-being for its inhabitants.
The new Head of Government of the capital assured that the citizen vote is a mandate that she will not betray and reaffirmed her commitment to govern in favor of the well-being and prosperity of the capital’s residents.
In his inauguration, Brugada also recalled the importance of solidarity in times of adversity, alluding to the citizen response to various crises. “We have mobilized in the face of the disaster and have set an example of empathy,” he said.
The solemn session in the Congress of Mexico City thus sealed a new chapter in the political history of the capital, which under the leadership of Clara Brugada promises to continue being the heart of the transformation movements in the country.
