Süle and Beier: Nuri Şahin gives injury update

BVB professionals Niklas Süle and Maximilian Beier have to be replaced injured in Gladbach. Both are questionable for the Champions League game against Barcelona. Things look worse at Süle.
Niklas Süle is threatened with another week-long absence. The Borussia Dortmund defender injured his previously damaged ankle during the 1-1 (0-0) draw at borussia Mönchengladbach. “Things didn’t look good for Niki, I can tell that,” said BVB coach Nuri Şahin after the game.
Süle is highly likely to miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against FC Barcelona. According to Sahin, the use of Maximilian Beier, who had to be replaced prematurely with an injury, is also questionable against the catalans.
Süle injured his right syndesmosis in October and was out for around six weeks. If this injury recurs, the 29-year-old is likely to be out until the end of January.
“I don’t even dare to ask anymore after the games,” said Dortmund coach Sahin. “It feels like we have a worse injury after every game. These aren’t just minor strains.”
What impact do injuries have on Borussia Dortmund‘s strategy for the Champions League match against Barcelona?
Interview with Nuri Şahin: Injury Concerns Ahead of Champions League Clash Against Barcelona
Editor: Welcome, Nuri Şahin. Thank you for joining us today. As Borussia Dortmund prepares for a high-stakes Champions League match against FC Barcelona, injury issues are making headlines. Could you update us on the current situation with players Niklas Süle and Maximilian beier?
Nuri Şahin: Thank you for having me. Regrettably, we have serious concerns about both Niklas Süle and Maximilian Beier. After our recent match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Süle’s ankle injury appears to have worsened. He previously injured it back in October due to a syndesmosis injury and was sidelined for six weeks. It doesn’t look good right now, and he might miss not only the Barcelona match but could be out until the end of January if this continues.
Editor: That sounds concerning. What’s your assessment of the situation moving forward? How will this impact the team’s strategy against barcelona?
Nuri Şahin: Missing key players like Süle is always a meaningful blow, especially against a strong opponent like Barcelona. His leadership and experience in defense are hard to replace. We may need to adjust our formation or tactics based on available personnel. The focus will be on maximizing the strengths of our remaining players while compensating for their absence.
Editor: It must be daunting to face such injuries, especially with the Champions League stage so competitive. How are you managing team morale amidst these challenges?
Nuri Şahin: It’s tough for the players, of course. Every time we finish a match, it feels like we’re facing another injury setback. However, it’s crucial to maintain a positive attitude. We’re constantly communicating about recovery protocols and rehabilitation. We also have to encourage the younger players to step up when called upon, building team depth.
Editor: Injuries can be unpredictable. From a coaching perspective, what measures do you recommend to players and coaching staff to minimize injury risks?
Nuri Şahin: Prevention is key. Frist, the importance of proper warm-ups and cool-downs should never be underestimated. Regular physical therapy and maintenance exercises can help prevent injuries from recurring. Additionally, having a extensive nutrition plan contributes to body resilience, which is often overlooked. Recovery protocols should also be strictly followed after every game.
Editor: Solid advice there, Nuri.As a former player turned coach, how do you feel this experience as a coach differs from your playing career, especially concerning player health and injuries?
Nuri Şahin: It’s an eye-opener, for sure. as a player, I was focused on performance, but as a coach, I carry a greater duty for the overall health and fitness of the team. Understanding how to evaluate and manage injuries, and preparing contingency plans,is now a central part of my job. It changes your perspective on training sessions and game readiness.
Editor: Before we wrap up,what do you beleive is the key takeaway for fans and supporters as they watch how your team adapts to these challenges?
Nuri Şahin: I want our fans to understand that while injuries are part of the sport,we are committed to competing at the highest level. Their support can rally our players and provide that extra motivation to persevere. Together, with resilience and passion, we’ll face Barcelona head-on, and the team is ready to give its all.
