There is currently a major recall of half liter bottles of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and MezzoMix in Austria. As reported by the Ö1-Morgenjournal, a total of 28 million bottles are affected. According to the Vienna Market Office, this is probably the largest recall campaign that has ever taken place in Austria.
“The collaboration with Coca-Cola is going very well,” says Alexander Hengl from the Vienna Market Office.
According to the Ö1-Morgenjournal, a sieve may have broken during the filling process, so a very limited number of 0.5 liter PET bottles may contain small pieces of metal. According to Hengl, no case has yet been reported in which someone has been injured as a result.
Types of Cola, Fanta, Sprite and MezzoMix affected
The 0.5 liter PET lemonade products include Coca-Cola (Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Coca-Cola Zero Lemon, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine, Coca-Cola Light), Fanta (Fanta Orange, Fanta Orange Zero, Fanta Lemon Zero, Fanta Exotic Zero), Sprite (Sprite, Sprite Zero) and MezzoMix. Coca-Cola introduces 14 million such bottles to the Austrian market every month.
Consumers should check if they have bottles at home with a best before date between 4 February 2025 and 12 April 2025 and the code “WP” under the printed date. The coding can be found on the back of the bottle above the label. The consumption of the affected products is not recommended due to possible health risks.
Money back even without receipt
Coca-Cola regretted the incident in a statement on Wednesday and apologized to its customers. Consumers can return affected products to food retail outlets for a refund of the purchase price without providing a receipt.
