Colombia is consolidating itself as a prominent tourist destination in Latin America, registering a total of 5.86 million tourists throughout 2023, according to data provided by the Economic Studies Office of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. In December alone, the country received 620,000 travelers, marking an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period in 2022.

The report reveals that non-resident visitors during 2023 exceeded those received in 2022 by 24.3%, experiencing an impressive increase of 173.6% compared to 2021. In relation to 2019, the figures show an increase of 29, 6%.

Of the non-resident tourists, 3.84 million were foreigners, excluding Venezuelan citizens. In addition, 1.44 million were Colombians residing abroad, 233,650 Venezuelans in search of rest and recreation, and 345,285 international cruise passengers.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Germán Umaña Mendoza, highlighted Colombia’s position as one of the preferred destinations in the region. He stressed that the country has managed to stand out not only for its marine-coastal and natural tourist attractions, but also for its gastronomic, cultural and community experiences.

During December, the fourth month of the ‘Colombia, the Country of Beauty’ campaign, the country received 619,660 non-resident visitors, reflecting an increase of 1.9% compared to December 2022 and exceeding the figures for December 2019 (523,866 ). These results support the continued success of Colombia’s national and international promotional campaign.
