“We thank the parties involved for their willingness to ensure that this humanitarian operation was completed successfully. In liberations, we play the role of neutral intermediaries and act with the strictly humanitarian aim of helping, in an impartial manner, those affected by armed conflicts and violence,” said Manuel Duce, head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Medellín.

The role played by the ICRC in releases is strictly humanitarian and aims to facilitate the reunification of people detained by armed groups with their families. The above contributes to alleviating the suffering of the released people, as well as that of their families.

On the other hand, given the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country, the ICRC calls on all parties involved in armed conflicts to respect and respect international humanitarian law (IHL).

“The eight existing armed conflicts in Colombia continue to have terrible effects on the civilian population. The application of international humanitarian law allows us to preserve a minimum of humanity and avoid the worst atrocities of war. This is why respect for these rules must be imperative”, added the Duce.

The ICRC offers its good offices as a neutral intermediary to facilitate other humanitarian operations that can mitigate the effects of armed conflicts.
