DIG/ Comilog joined the 3rd edition of the NASA Space Apps Challenge which took place from October 4 to 6, 2024 at the Agondjé Friendship stadium. The theme chosen for this issue was “The sun touches everything. »
This hackathon launched simultaneously worldwide by the American space agency NASA brought together 145 local participants grouped in 22 teams, coming from the cities of Libreville, Port-Gentil and Moanda. The latter took turns defending their projects in front of a jury that included Ms. Chung MANFOUMBI, IS Project Manager at Comilog.
The team was supported and guided by several coaches including two Comilog employees, Désiré MONDJOT and Enzo-Loïd ESSONO (AI Project Manager).
At the end of the 48 hours of competition, the MATRIX team with its artistic web application aimed to transmit in particular the wonder of the discoveries of the NASA space telescope (James Webb).
This solution which aimed to popularize science through fun videos was successful in winning this challenge. The Ekang team completes the second step of the podium and their website allows the general public to better understand the current impacts of climate change on the planet through the use of 3D diagrams and immersive panoramic images.
These two winning projects will be sent to NASA to compete, on behalf of Gabon, with other projects from the four corners of the world.
In addition, the team representing the mining town (Moanda Innovators), which basically consisted of 4 learners from the Moanda Fablab funded by Comilog, was also recognized for being part of the top 7.
She won over the jury with her e-learning platform which aims to educate teenagers on the issues of global warming. Comilog’s participation in this event that brings together digital enthusiasts is part of its clear desire to support the emergence of the digital ecosystem in Gabon and perpetuates its commitment to young people.
Initiated in 2012 by NASA, This hackathon, the largest in the world, aims to “give participants the opportunity to design and produce innovative and relevant solutions that can respond to the global challenges of space exploration and improve the life on earth with the freedom to take advantage of NASA’s open data.
