On Wednesday, October 23, at the Cementos Progreso Stadiumthe expected first leg playoff match between Comunicaciones FC and Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica. Both teams fight for qualification to the prestigious Concacaf Champions Cup 2025after having been left out in the quarterfinals of the Central American Cup 2024.

Communications FC 1 – 0 Saprissa

During the first half the score remained 0-0, with almost similar possession of the ball by both teams. However, for the next 45 minutes, the Creams They opened the scoring with a goal in the 57th minute by Diego Casas.

The Saprissa purples were not far behind and in the 63rd minute they tied the score with a score from Javon East. The match ended with a score tied at 1-1, which leaves the Albo team with a challenge for next week.

The 2025 Champions Cup at stake

The playoff against Saprissa is key for the creams to obtain their ticket to the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, which will be played between February and June of next year. In this edition, the 60th, the best clubs in the region will compete, and Comunicaciones seeks to join the list of qualifiers, along with teams such as Antigua GFC from Guatemala, LD Alajuelense and CSD Herediano from Costa Rica, and Real Estelí from Nicaragua, who have already secured their place after reaching the semifinals of the 2024 Central American Cup.

A total of 27 clubs will participate in the next Champions Cup. Of them, 22 teams will begin their participation in the first round, while five will receive a direct pass to the round of 16.

Upcoming matches

Comunicaciones FC and Saprissa will face each other again in the second leg on Tuesday, October 29 in Costa Rica, where it will be decided which team will secure its place in the Concachampions 2025. The creams will have to improve their offensive precision and maintain defensive solidity to overcome Saprissa at home, in what will be a decisive matchup.

On the other hand, in the other playoff series, CD Águila from El Salvador and FC Motagua from Honduras will seek their place in the Champions Cup on Wednesday, October 30 at the Cuscatlán Stadium. Motagua arrives with an advantage after having won 2-0 in the first leg, but Águila will seek to come back at home.
