Conference League: Lille de Paulo Fonseca unhappy on visit to England

Paulo Fonseca’s Lille lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the 1st leg of the Conference League quarter-finals.

The English team, the only team to win a game in this round of European competitions, took the lead in the 13th minute, a goal from Ollie Watkins, who received a ball from John McGinn and put Aston Villa ahead.

Half-time at Villa Park and Unai Emery’s team came out stronger again, with the 2-0 coming in the 56th minute, created by Scotsman John McGinn.

Lille pulled one back close to the 90th minute, with Bafode Diakite putting the ball in the back of the net.

Highlight for the ownership of the Portuguese Tiago Santos. Young Tiago Morais remained on the bench and did not play any minutes.

In the other game of the night, Club Brugge beat PAOK by the smallest margin.

With the Portuguese Vitinha and ex-Benfica players Meité and Zivkovic in the starting eleven, the Greek team found themselves losing after just 6 minutes, with a goal from Hugo Vetlesen.

In the second half, in the 78th minute, Brazilian Igor Thiago had the opportunity to increase the advantage, giving the Belgian club more space for the second leg, but missed a penalty.

Next Thursday, the Villans travel to France, to play the second leg of the tie, while PAOK hosts Club Brugge, at 8pm.
