The House Oversight and Accountability Committee is investigating a series of incidents involving the closure of American diplomatic missions around the world during Joe Biden’s presidency, including in Minsk and Moscow.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was reported in a statement issued by the committee.

“Chairman [комитета] James Comer (R-Ky.) is investigating a series of closures and partial evacuations of embassies around the world under the Biden administration,” the document says. We are talking about the suspension of the US Embassy in Minsk and the removal of employees and their families from the US Embassy in Moscow in 2022. The committee’s attention was also drawn to the closure of diplomatic missions in Afghanistan and Sudan and the partial evacuation of mission staff in Niger, Myanmar and Haiti.

“The closures and service restrictions are reducing the level of US diplomatic presence abroad,” Comer said. In his opinion, this is fraught with “serious consequences for US citizens living in these countries and foreign citizens who have to travel to other places to obtain consular services.” The congressman considers such actions a “failure of US foreign policy.”

Comer wrote to Secretary of State Antony Blinken requesting a briefing on the topic. The committee chairman wants to know how the head of the State Department plans to achieve foreign policy goals in the face of the suspension and curtailment of the US diplomatic presence.
