In case of non-attendance, a second round will be held without the parties present.
North Korea’s first response 20 days after the impeachment was passed

The Constitutional Court, which is hearing the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol, decided to conclude the preparation process on the 3rd and hold its first argument date at 2pm on the 14th. The Constitutional Court immediately designated the 2nd to 5th hearing dates and announced a ‘speed war’. The parties involved in the impeachment trial are required to attend the argument date, but it is possible to proceed from the second argument date even if President Yoon does not appear, so the hearing on the grounds for impeachment is expected to begin in earnest from the 16th at the latest.

The Constitutional Court announced this after holding the second argument preparation day at the Constitutional Court’s small trial in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 3rd. The 2nd (16th), 3rd (21st), 4th (23rd), and 5th (February 4) hearing dates were also designated. The Constitutional Court’s decision to set the second hearing date on the 16th was a measure taken into consideration in case President Yoon does not appear on the first argument date. According to the Constitutional Court Act, President Yoon, the party involved, must appear at the argument date, and if he does not appear, a new date must be set. However, if you do not appear on the second hearing, you can proceed as is. If President Yoon does not appear on the 14th, the argument date can proceed from the 16th.

The Constitutional Court accepted the National Assembly’s request to secure investigation records from prosecutors and police related to the December 3 martial law emergency. Accordingly, the investigation records are expected to be accepted as evidence. President Yoon’s side submitted part of the response requested by the Constitutional Court on this day. It has been 20 days since the impeachment bill was passed in the National Assembly on December 14 last year.
