Actress Nayanthara’s 75 film “Annapurani” has been temporarily removed from the Netflix site after Hindu organizations protested that it contained many lines and scenes that hurt religious sentiments.
Commenting on the incident, director Vetermaran said, “Indian directors have no creative freedom. This is a danger to the Indian film industry,” he said.
In this situation, the film’s heroine Nayanthara has issued an explanatory statement regarding the Annapoorani film controversy.
The statement, which starts with ‘Jai Sri Ram’, says, “It is with a heavy heart and self-will that I make this statement regarding the fact that my film Annapoorani has been the talk of the town for the past few days.
We saw Annapoorani not just for commercial purposes but as an attempt to bring a good idea to people. We made Annapoorani movie in such a way that if you fight with determination you can achieve anything.
We wanted to instill a positive message through Annapoorani and felt that we were unknowingly hurting some people’s minds. A film that has been certified by the Censor Board and released theatrically has been removed from OTT, something we were a bit surprised by.
My team and I do not have the guts to hurt anyone’s feelings. I would never have done this on purpose as I have a habit of telling all places of worship with great faith in God. Beyond that, I apologize for hurting your feelings in any way.
The real purpose of the movie Annapoorani is to inspire and motivate and not to hurt anyone’s feelings.
I would like to point out here once again that the purpose of my 20-year journey on screen is only to spread honest thoughts and learn good things from others,” said Nayanthara.
