Councillor’s Murder | Manjeri Municipal Councilor murdered; The main accused has been arrested from Tamil Nadu

Malappuram: Police have arrested the main accused in the murder case of Manjeri Municipal Councilor Abdul Jaleel. Shuhaib, a native of Nellikuth, was arrested from Chennai. Shuhaib, who fled after the incident, was nabbed by a team of investigators who arrived in Chennai yesterday. Police had earlier arrested two other accused in the case. Shamshir and Abdul Majeed were arrested on Thursday by a special investigation team led by Manjeri Police Inspector C Alavi.

The murder took place on Tuesday night. There was an altercation between Jaleel and his friends and Shuhaib’s group over a vehicle parked on a small road off the main road at Payyanad Thamarassery. After discussing the issue, both the parties continued their journey. The attack took place when the councilor’s vehicle was parked on the road near the Nellikuthu football turf to drop off a bystander. As the councilor was getting out of the vehicle and coming down the road, the three accused came on two motorcycles and attacked the councilor and drove away in a two-wheeler.

Defendants said Jaleel was hit in the head with a heavy boulder. It was Shuhaib who hit Jaleel on the head with a stone. The skull was shattered by the impact of the thunder and the brain was shattered. No injuries anywhere else on the body. The councilor, who was being treated at the Perinthalmanna private hospital with serious injuries, died at around 7 pm on Wednesday.

On the instructions of Malappuram district police chief K Sujith Das IPS, a special investigation team led by Manjeri police inspector C Alavi was formed and the accused were nabbed by the police. The vehicles used by the accused in the incident were also taken into police custody.

SI Sulaiman and Girish, members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Manjeri CIC Alavi, were arrested on the instructions of DySP PM Pradeep on the basis of intelligence received by Malappuram police chief K Sujith Das. M, Aneesh Chacko, Muhammad Saleem. P, Dinesh IK, Harilal P, Taufeeq Mubarak, Sirajuddin. The accused are being nabbed by a team comprising K and K.
