It was not a normative day for the police officers of the Traffic Division, when today (Friday) they arrested a man who was driving recklessly on Route 241 towards Gilat Junction, and found 11 sheep in the trunk of his car.
A traffic department car was called to the scene and the officer located the vehicle on Route 25 and noticed that the driver was driving carelessly, swaying from side to side, swerving to the side and almost overturning. The policeman stopped the vehicle and pointed out that the 47-year-old driver was carrying 11 sheep in the trunk – which is prohibited by law.
The police said that “the policeman issued the driver a summons for reckless driving. Inspectors from the enforcement unit of the Ministry of Agriculture also arrived at the scene, fined the suspect and summoned him for questioning.”
The commander of the Negev National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Rector Ella Kena stated: “Transporting animals in this way can cause them suffering and it is a serious traffic offense that can cause a traffic accident that endangers the driver and other road users.”
