The turning point in the murder of Massimo Melis she arrived within hours of his funeral. In the night between Friday and Saturday, the investigators of the Turin mobile squad, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Chiara Canepa, arrested a man seriously suspected for the murder of the 52-year-old operator of the Green Cross, killed on October 31st aboard his Fiat Punto after having accompanied his ex-girlfriend Patrizia home. It is about Luigi Oste, 62 years old, originally from Piazza Armerina (Enna) but residing in the Piedmontese capital in the Barriera di Milano district, the same where the “Halloween crime” took place. According to the investigators it was he who shot the gunshot at the left temple who killed Melis. Oste was first heard as a person informed on the facts, then – after providing evasive answers – he asked to be assisted by a lawyer. During the’interrogation of the night made use of the right not to answer. To validate the arrest it will be necessary to wait for the decision of the investigating judge, which will arrive in the next few hours.
Building contractor, prejudiced with convictions for crimes against property e drug dealing, already arrested last June for resistance to public officials and injuries, was tracked down by investigators thanks to a frame of the cameras video surveillance of the area. There are no images of the place where Melis was shot, but the presence of the 62-year-old in the surrounding area was recorded in thetime of the murder, around 21, as also results from printouts and from telephone cells. The track most followed by the Flying Squad is the one that led to acquaintances of Patrizia: lately, even if only as friends, she and Melis had started dating again. On the evening of the murder, the victim, after shopping with the woman, accompanied her home. Patrizia had then found the corpse of friend the next day, in the same place where the man had parked the Punto the night before.
A few meters from the high-rise buildings of via Gottardo, the killer – and the reconstruction elaborated by the investigators – opened the car door and, from close range, he pulled the trigger of a .38 caliber revolver, a weapon that has not yet been found. Then, closing the door, he walked away. Right from the start, Patrizia had told the investigators about a customer of the bar of her father Alessandro, where she works, which from this summer courted her, exchanging his courtesies for an interest. He was looking for her, had invited her out and addressed them attentions which she had kindly rejected. But Innkeeper would have seen in Melis, whom he knew, a rival. The funeral of the 52-year-old took place on Saturday morning in the center, in the convent of Saint Anthony of Padua in which as a child he served mass as an altar boy. A “little big man in love with his family, a real one peacemaker, selfless and generous ”, his colleagues reminded him.
