The University of Computer Sciences of Cuba (UCI) convened the Global Game Jam (GGJ), the largest video game development event in the world.

This new edition will be held from January 30 to February 6, 2023 at the Cuban university institution and has the collaboration of the Havana Scientific and Technological Park, the Union of Computer Scientists of Cuba, and the ICAIC Animation Studies, among others. .

According to a report from the state media Cubadebate, the Organizing Committee of the event reported that this would be the 15th edition of the GGJ and “as it is such an important occasion, we have decided to make things even bigger this year by entering the GGJ for the first time.” “NEXT our event focused on children from 7 to 15 years of age.”

The GGJ-NEXT will meet online from January 30 to February 5, while the GGJ will meet in person from February 2 to 5, the publication added.

In the upcoming edition, up to 170 participants will be accepted and will be distributed between the two events as follows: 120 participants in the GGJ (over 16 years old), distributed in teams of 4 people; and 50 in the GGJ-NEXT, who will participate individually.

Registration for the event is available through the GGJ web portal and the admission deadline expires on January 14, 2023, at 12 noon (Cuba time).

Through its website, the GGJ assured that the sponsors are “institutions committed to supporting the global community of game developers and helping it grow. “We believe that by working together we can achieve more, and we are delighted to take our relationship with them even further in 2023.”

That is why the sponsors will be the ones who will present the recognition to the six best solutions in each branch of the event during its closing event that will take place on February 6.

In addition, it was reported that in the case of twelfth grade students, whose team is selected among the three best in the event, they will receive as a prize the direct award of a degree in Computer Science Engineering.

Finally, the organizers highlighted that the GGJ is “the largest collaborative game creation event in the world” and explained that each year it brings together “tens of thousands of developers from more than 100 countries to create, in a period of 48 hours, a functional video game prototype.”
