This weekend, hundreds of people took to the streets in various cities in Cuba, including Guantánamo, Havana and Cienfuegos, to hold prayer vigils for the health of reggaeton singer <a href="http://www.time.news/the-girlfriend-of-cuban-reggaeton-singer-el-taiger-was-also-arrested-2024-04-20-110824/" title="The girlfriend of Cuban reggaeton singer El Taiger was also arrested

The artist is in critical condition after being shot in the head last week, and this news has many of his followers worried, who have come together to pray for his recovery.
The Facebook portal “Cuba actu” shared a video that shows a crowd, mostly young, walking down an avenue while singing, which has generated strong controversy.
While some see the gesture of solidarity as positive, others criticize that people take to the streets for an artist and not to protest the crisis that the country is experiencing, marked by lack of food, constant blackouts and other social problems.
One of the comments that sparked the debate was that of an elderly woman who stated: “Nothing to do with that man, as a human being, let him get better, but I cannot ignore that they are speaking out for him and not for the situation in the country.” : hunger, blackouts, abuses.”
“Take a march against this incapable Government that has plunged the country into chronic underdevelopment and has caused a massive stampede of our young people looking for a promising future. I am truly convinced that the PCC has melted the brains of Cubans, the country is in a blackout, children and the elderly without food and medicine, there is no public transportation and they are not able to mobilize to protest,” said a young man.

On the other hand, defenders of El Taiger see these vigils as an act of affection and support for one of the most popular musicians on the island.
“Right now, he is the greatest and most beloved artist that Cuba has in any genre,” said a Havana native in response to the criticism.
In Cienfuegos, the vigil was held in Parque Martí, while in Havana a march was held on Friday at the intersection of 23rd and Malecón, where dozens of people gathered to pray for the singer’s health.
In Santiago de Cuba, there was confusion about the exact location of the meeting, but the mobilization was notable in several provinces.
The case has sparked a debate between those who consider these vigils as an act of love and faith, and those who believe that the Cuban people should focus their attention on demonstrating against the misery experienced on the island.
