Written and directed by the Senegalese Abdourahmane Fall, this 72-minute film revisits in particular the deep links existing between the Tijane Brotherhood, notably the city of Tivaouane and the spiritual city of Fez, where the founder of the brotherhood, Cheikh, is buried. Ahmed Tijani.
“From Fez to Tivaouane, to the sources of the Tijanya” is “an incursion into the heart of Tijanya, begun in December 2018 with a trip to Morocco, more precisely to Fez, where the revered Sheikh Ahmed Tijani rests,” confided the director of the film, produced with the support of Moroccan partners, the Fund for the Promotion of the Cinematographic and Audiovisual Industry in Senegal and the contribution of Senegalese Radio and Television “RTS1”.
“Beyond the purely religious and cultic aspect of Tijania, we wanted to review the diplomatic and geopolitical issues of this Sufi brotherhood,” underlined the filmmaker, noting that the film also revisits the history of centuries-old ties. between Senegal and Morocco.
This documentary “illustrates the deep and timeless bond between Morocco and Senegal through the spiritual prism of the famous Tariqa Tijanya”, indicated, for his part, the Kingdom’s ambassador in Dakar, Hassan Naciri.
“The fruit of a structured vision and a passionate collaboration between artists and researchers, this documentary film is much more than a simple story. It is a captivating journey through the landscapes of our origins, exploring religious links , devotion and fraternity which unite our two brother peoples,” he added.
Through testimonies on the traditions and rituals of the Tariqa Tijania in Morocco and Senegal, the film “offers a look at the richness and diversity of our common spiritual heritage,” continued Mr. Naciri.
The diplomat also stressed that HM King Mohammed VI has always been kind enough to surround the Sufi families of Senegal with His great concern, citing as an example the strong participation of Moroccan delegations in the various Senegalese religious events.
Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, Amir Al-Mouminine, he maintained, is working to strengthen religious and spiritual ties with Senegal, as evidenced by the training for the benefit of Imams within of the Mohammed VI Institute for the training of Imams, Mourchidines and Mourchidates, an internationally renowned institution which intends to preserve the moderate nature of religious discourse and protect Muslim societies from extremism.
For his part, the Secretary of State for Culture, Cultural Industries and Heritage, Bakary Cissé, highlighted the depth and excellence of relations between Morocco and Senegal, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The Senegalese official also praised the strong spiritual ties existing between religious brotherhoods and the Sovereigns of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Welcoming the strong ties between the Kingdom and Senegal, the other speakers underlined the high benevolence with which HM King Mohammed VI surrounds the Tariqa Tijania and His constant efforts in favor of the defense of Islam.
