Former Brazil international Dani Alves was unable to be released from custody on Wednesday despite being granted permission by a Barcelona court to temporarily release him. The reason is his inability to pay his €1 million bail.
According to Alves’ lawyer, he has around 70,000 euros in his accounts and is in a “difficult economic situation” as all his advertising and club contracts have been terminated after he was accused of raping a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub.
With the issuing of the sentence of 4.5 years, which is appealed by the victim and the prosecution, he also paid 150,000 euros in compensation.
The money was given to him in the form of a loan from Neymar, who will now also pay him the guarantee of 1 million euros.
