Danny Avdia got a chance to score the first winning basket in his career – but what happened since that chance he would rather forget.

Washington suffered a dramatic 119:122 loss tonight (between Wednesday and Thursday) against Brooklyn at home, in which Avdia was blocked on a critical shot, lost the last ball and finished with 17 points (5 of 10 from the field, 1 of 3 from three, 6 of 8 from the penalty box) , 12 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, 2 turnovers and a plus-minus index of -3 in 38 minutes.

The Israeli returned to the floor after missing the previous game in Chicago due to illness and recorded his 11th game in a row with at least 14 points, but was unable to surpass in money time and the Wizards’ three-game winning streak, their longest of the season, came to an end. Jordan Paul’s record game in DC was also not enough for Washington, who dropped to a 59:14 record in 14th place in the Eastern Conference.

In the last attack of the hosts in the fourth quarter, when the scoreboard showed 112:112, Avdia took Nick Claxton to the basket and blocked 11.1 seconds to the end. By the way, two minutes earlier the forward missed a three-pointer that could have given his team a 2-point lead, but later Kyle Kuzma equalized. Dennis Schroeder missed a tough 3-pointer at the buzzer and the game went into overtime.

Two consecutive baskets by the man of the game, Cam Thomas (38 points and 7 assists), made it 112:118 for the Nets with 2:44 minutes to go, but Brian Keefe’s students did not give up. Corey Kispert drew a controversial foul from Thomas with 13.1 seconds left and had a chance to tie from the free throw, but missed the second and Schroeder showed him how to do it right on the way to 119:122 with 9.0 seconds left.

Paul missed a free throw from three after a drill, Dorian Finney Smith missed twice from the line and when Avdia took the rebound in the final seconds – he dropped the ball to the floor and lost it before he could find one of his teammates for a shot that could have forced overtime.

Avdia had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists at halftime, when the Wizards trailed 61:54, and he scored his last basket in the third quarter. Paul looked like the star he was expected to be with a season high of 38 points (15 of 24 from the field) along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds, Kyle Kuzma also returned to the floor and added 10/6/24, Marvin Bagley scored 18, Kispert 15 and the starting center Rishon Holmes was injured and did not return. The team from the capital of the United States dropped to a 2:0 record in games that went to overtime (they also lost to the Los Angeles Lakers away).

For Brooklyn, which rose to a 45:28 record in 11th place in the East, Thomas reached his 38 points on 52% from the field (14 of 27). Schroeder contributed 21 and 8 assists, Mikel Bridges assisted with 19 and Claxton added 17 along with 13 rebounds and 3 blocks, including the important one in the game against Avdia.

Avdia and his friends will stay at home and will host between Friday and Saturday the only team in the NBA that has a worse record than them (61:12) – Detroit Pistons.
