Mumbai: This is the first IPL season without former South African AB de Villiers. De Villiers is the only foreign player to be part of the IPL since the first season of 2008. He has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore for 11 seasons. De Villiers has a close friendship with former RCB captain Virat Kohli. It still continues.
He was retiring from active cricket after the 2021 IPL season. Kohli talks about the thoughts he first had when he first heard the news of De Villiers’ retirement. Kohli said this in a video released by RCB. ” I miss that day. He sent me a voice message. The message was as we were heading home after the T20 World Cup. Anushka was in the car.
After seeing the message I looked at her face. When she saw my face, she told me not to tell her what was going on. They knew what was happening. She didn’t say anything either. ” Kohli explained.
Kohli also said that De Villiers had hinted at his retirement during the last IPL season. ” The room for both of us was next door. He once told me to sit down and talk. De Villiers had never spoken to me like this before. De Villiers had something to say to me. It was a terrible situation. I can not say anything. ” Kohli continued.
The RCB debuted yesterday in the 15th season of the IPL. But Punjab lost to the Kings. It was also a match in which Kohli performed well. He scored 29 runs and scored 41 runs. New captain Faf du Plessis scored 88 runs.
