Ferenc Deák spent almost half a century on his estate in Kehida, where thoughts and ideas were born that determined the fate of Hungary not only in the 19th century, but were decisive for the 20th century and still have a huge impact today, the Minister of Justice stated on Friday in Zala in Kehidakustány.
On the occasion of the 221st anniversary of the birth of Ferenc Deák, Bence Tuzson said at the commemoration organized in his former mansion: Deák as a professor of law, a sage of the homeland, a politician and a great thinker created the compromise and thus set the country on the path of development.
A “the wise man of the country and the proctor of the nation” was someone who continuously worked to deepen and represent our most important values, including the freedom of the nation.
„He was able to fight with a pen and thoughts” with his calmness, constantly looking for an agreement, either opposing the fighters or standing up for them, to create the country we call Hungary – emphasized the minister.
He highlighted: Ferenc Deák also made a very serious contribution as a lawyer, since the draft of the penal code he prepared can still be considered a model, one of the fundamental documents of modern criminal law, from which Hungarian legislation could start.
Bence Tuzson reminded that documents, letters and thoughts were born within the walls of the Kehida manor that connected Hungary and such great people as István Széchenyi, Lajos Kossuth or Mihály Vörösmarty. He set an example for those who are active in public life.
The thoughts and aspirations that he formulated regarding the freedom, independence and development of the nationt, “we must all feel within”, and everyone must do so that they can be realized. Our values and thoughts must be passed on to our children, because we can strengthen the country not only with the stories of great people, but also with the stories of all of us, from which Hungary emerges like a mosaic – indicated the Minister of Justice.
