Montenegro’s Vijesti TV channel said there was a quarrel the evening before the shooting, adding that five people were killed. The suspect is still at large, Reuters reported.
Police did not specify the number of victims. Montenegrin police have sent special units to the area, urging people to stay indoors.
The Directorate of Police of Montenegro said in a statement: “All available police units are on the ground and engaged in activities within their jurisdiction” to arrest the suspect.
Mass shootings are rare in Montenegrin society, which has a deep-rooted gun culture. In 2022, 11 people, including two children and a gunman, were killed in a mass shooting in the country, and six others were injured.
Despite strict gun laws, the Western Balkans are still full of illegal weapons dating back to the First World War.
